IT was a case of the bigger they come the harder they fall during the annual Shopmobility Pancake Race - after pupils from the Royal Grammar School flipped their way to glory.

The RGS trio of Liam Morgan, Tom Howe and Ryan Alford were presented with the much coveted shield by High Wycombe Mayoress Jane White after a nail biting finale to Tuesday’s charity race at Eden.

The boys were neck-and-neck with the shopping centre’s powerful security team on the last lap of the final race, when the security team, quite literally, tossed away their chances by dropping their pancake just yards from the finish line.

The slip allowed RGS champion sprinter Tom to seal an impressive win for the school's under 12 rugby stars.

RGS pancake race coach Isabella Eastham said: "We were really delighted to be able to represent the Mayor in this local fundraising race.

"Shopmobility offer an important service to the community and to be able to highlight the work they do in this way is fantastic.

"The boys did incredibly well, beating every team in each race. They came up with great race tactics and fully deserved the win - we hope the Mayor is pleased with this year’s champions."

Five teams took part in the race - including last year’s champions NoodleNation - which raised £81.39 for Shopmobility.
